a word from Shannon ….Bonalbo Preschool

“When children pretend, they use they’re imaginations to move beyond the bounds of reality. A stick can be a magic wand. A sock can be a puppet. A small child can be a superhero.” – Fred Rogers

Whilst studying you come across the most amazing things to read. This quote is just one of them. When I first started my traineeship I didn’t know the importance of early childhood education, at first I thought, hey this is going to be easy. I was soon proven wrong, but I loved it. My friends at school would say how lucky I was to be able to go to the preschool once a week and play all day.

What I didn’t know at first is there are so many different aspects to playing guitarconsider when getting an experience ready for the children. You wonder, will they be interested? Will they be engaged? Providing experiences that support and engage children, nurturing their creativity, letting them explore, have fun and learn through play.

So I chose this quote because I feel it represents how we, as educators, can support a child/children and the environment around them. To allow them to feel safe, secure and supported within the service and let their imaginations run wild! Something we see as a cardboard box could be anything and everything for a child, their imagination gives them the opportunity for the box to be whatever they can think of, it’s amazing! I feel the children at Bonalbo have amazing imaginations and we are helping them find a sense of Belonging, Being and Becoming.
